About Me

About art therapy.

Art Therapists are psychodynamically trained professionals who provide a form of therapy, which includes the optional use of art materials to create images, marks, or forms, to help reflect on and to express thoughts and feelings. We are governed by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), and it is a legal requirement to be registered before practicing anywhere in the UK or Guernsey as an Art Therapist or Art Psychotherapist. As well as helping clients to express their emotions and to explore their thoughts, feelings and memories, art therapy has also been shown to aid in a person’s ability to be ‘in the moment’

Like all forms of therapy, it is important to find a therapist who is right for you, and a way of working that fits. Art therapy, like many forms of therapy is about the therapeutic relationship.

There is no need to have any form of artistic experience, and no aesthetic judgements are made in sessions. Art therapy tools can range from talking, metaphors, visualisation and art materials. Please don't worry if you feel nervous or unsure about using creativity in your therapy, each session is tailored to individual needs.

Art therapy can help with issues common to counselling and psychotherapy including but not limited to;

  • Family problems

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Loss and Bereavement

  • Difficulties arising from living with a learning or physical difficulty

  • Life limiting conditions

  • Addiction

  • Trauma

  • Abuse

Individual sessions cost £60 per 50 minutes
